A leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has questioned whether appointees of the Akufo-Addo-led government are true members of the NPP.
He says he has been wondering if these appointees of the President indeed have the party and the country at heart.
“I’m beginning to wonder if they are serving him and whether they have the country at heart.
I’m beginning to ask them, are they really true NPP people? Do they have NPP cards, I want to see when they signed onto this NPP thing and which constituencies they belong to because I think a lot of the key people around him don’t have this party at heart.
They are damaging the country and damaging the political party and it’s going to damage the brand of our NPP” he said on Kessben TV.
He called on the patriots in the political party to rise and speak against what is going on.

Yes, any NPP supporter who saw the 8 year rule of president kufour will be asking the same question. The amazing thing is that those ministers who were brought into the party ( they didn't come on their own to join) are those dictating affairs today. Between 1992- 2000 the NPP had difficulties getting MP's to contest in some constituencies especially in the north. Today those who made sacrifices by contesting with their little resources have been forgotten completely. People sacrificed their all just to ensure that the NPP was firmly grounded. In certain parts of the country you needed to be a hardened person to identify with the NPP knowing the power Rawlings had in those early years, these people were denied a lot of opportunities but they stood their grounds. Today such dedicated personalities have been forgotten. Those who have passed on left families behind but nobody is asking of them. Former president kufour had time to ask of some hard working NPP stalwarts he knew through out the country irrespective of your economic of social standing, this were some of the things he did to make the NPP attractive. Kufour gave a lot of power to party chairmen and they were feared by the MMDCEs and ministers. Under kufour a minister could not misbehave towards party executives much less MMDCE's. Kufour made his appointees aware that it's the ordinary NPP supporters sacrifices that made it possible for him to be president and he inturn appointing them as ministers. Between 2001-2008 every NPP member had some hope that his/ her turn will come looking at how they were going about issues. Kufour and his appointees knew how to move government and party together, they looked back occasionally to be sure the party was following government closely. A lot of NPP supporters thought an Akuffo Addo government will be like the kufour one thus all hands were on deck at ensuring that the NPP takes over power again. The fact that Akuffo Addo in opposition secured 53-% + as compared to 44% for a government in power with all the resources at their disposal should tell Akuffo Addo the hopes that the people had in him.If it were about money he wouldn't have come anywhere near the presidency since no individual Ghanaian is richer than the government. John Mahama touched every constituency in Ghana, Akuffo Addo held regional rallies and yet he won massively. Today he together with his appointees have soon forgotten where they came from, behaving as if they came through a coup d'tat. The people you meet on your up are same people you meet on your way down. Fear people who are quiet, you never know what's in their mind. For the first time in the fourth republic, Ashanti, the stronghold of the NPP is very much unhappy with the party , this is unheard of. That should tell you all is not well. I pity whoever will take over from Akuffo Addo for the 2024 elections, that person will use more than 50% of his time trying to convince NPP supporters to make sacrifices again not to talk of convincing floating voters. They should let the national security go round and bring them information on the ground, some regional ministers /MMDCEs can't even call NPP supporters to come out and welcome the president when he's visiting. How then can you 'break the 8'. If money was everything, John Mahama wouldn't have lost the 2016 elections. We are watching closely, if current happenings is not enough a lesson for Akuffo Addo and his appointees to learn from, then they will never learn , 2024 could be worse. 2024 will come and it will come.
