President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been asked to reevaluate his popularity after he was booed at the recently held 2022 Global Citizen Festival at the Black Star Square in Accra.
The President got booed as he mounted the stage to speak at the event which was held on Saturday at the Black Star Square.
The crowd in a video that has gone viral can be heard chanting ‘away, away . . . ’ immediately he started speaking.
This reaction has been condemned by many but others believe it is a 'true reflection' of what Ghanaians are feeling.
Political Scientist, Dr. Amoako Baah speaking to the issue on Starr FM, asked the President to "use this to advise himself as to how angry Ghanaians are. For such an occasion to be turned into such a fiasco is very bad. If he has been listening to his handlers to tell him what he wants to hear, now, he should put his ears down and get others to tell him what is going on. He has to know his own popularity among his people. People are hungry, you go to this occasion in a convoy, why should you do that? The country is in hardship and yet you don’t behave in any way to let people know that you feel for them and that you’re in it with them. You continue doing business as usual”.
According to him, "It is just a sad occasion, this should never happen. It also goes to speak to the handlers of the President, how is this possible that this old man could be left on the stage all that time by himself? He’s talking they don’t mind him, they just booing him and nobody mounted the stage to interrupt the whole thing and give the President the chance to come back again and address them very quickly and get off the stage. Nothing happened, he stood there and he was talking but they didn’t mind him. He eventually raised his hands and walked off. Very sad, it also shows that the President is not able to gauge his own popularity."

What is the NDC telling Ghanaians it will do differently and better than the NPP-administration to restore the economy to an appreciating path of growth? That is exactly the issue I have with the NDC. It does not speak of policies, programs, and interventions it will undertake to bring back the economy in its current deplorable form and challenges into work. Theirs has always been massive propaganda , false fabrications, and lies against the government. If the NDC as an opposition party has the competence and better solutions to turn things over, it should demonstrate and convince Ghanaians that it has what it takes to present a better alternative. Negativity and painting the government bad do not, by infrerence, present solutions to the challenges. Unless that happens, the NDC lacks the ability to label Ghanaians as politically uneducated and intellectually deficient.
@Dan: You are misleading the populace. How many people gathered at the place that dat? And how many hooligans were out there to disturb the atmosphere? Why can't we put the blame on Mahama and the NDC? Mahama is poised to come to power again by any means, therefore, he is looking for the least opportunity to discredit the NPP, yes the NPP, but not Nana Addo. Why, because whether you like it or not Nana Addo is not going to run for the Presidency, come 2024. And 2023 is definitely going to be a campaign year. The NPP will come out with a new candidate for the Presidency who Mahama, no doubt, will be facing. Therefore, the strategy left for Mahama now is the run down the NPP as a whole, so that he capitalise on that to win the sympathy of Ghanaians. But Ghanaians are very discernible. They know how Mahama performed when he was President in the past. They will definitely decide on the d-day
The wise still have hope in the President, only those who don't read or read but refuse to tell the truth about what is going on globally. Frustrated, John Mahama and his people are behind this. Dr Amoako Baah needs attention; who cares about his statement?
You're just waffling and flip flopping on issues. First of all it was a insignificant section that was heckling. It didn't prevent him from making his speech. Secondly this statement people make about mahama being a saint now and having voted for npp is a lie. That's just your new strategy to try and win sympathy votes for NDC like you did after Mills death. Mahama's presidency was bad period and that was without any global challenges. He has nothing to offer again and no policies whatsoever. All he has to say about anything is "I'll do the opposite of what they're doing". Nana won in 2016 with over a million votes and in 2020 even with COVID and difficulties he won by over 500 thousand votes. Social media is just an echo chamber and not a yardstick of population sentiment because the majority of voters who benefit from all the social interventions don't even use twitter or smartphones. So I say Away to you with your nonfa lol
I think what happened to the president was a tip of the iceberg. Fact is that the good people of Ghana had a lot of hope and confidence in Akuffo Addo before 2017. Most people saw him as a very strict, no ***barred word***, honest, incorruptible and one who can change the fortunes of Ghana. Unfortunately he has squandered a golden opportunity to have made a good name for himself and immediate family. However from 2017 to date happenings in government makes people ask whether the akuffo Addo they know or heard of is same person as the president. Fact is the president is a big disappointment, he doesn't seem to know what is happening around him not to talk of the whole country.Under his watch appointees have become thin gods doing what pleases them as if to say they appointed themselves. As to how come majority of Ghanaians feel there is the need for changes in some government positions only for the president to score his appointees with grade A is amazing. The president cannot be more intelligent than all Ghanaians. He should know that if the presidency were by an open examination, he won't come near the jubilee house not to talk of being president. John Mahama was not perfect, he also got things wrong but at least he knew what was happening around him, John Mahama can still give you details about all projects undertaken during his regime, when it comes to 'my man' he doesn't even know trending issues in his country. Any president who is on top of issues should expect some questions when granting interviews to the media. Anybody in Ghana today knows one of the trending topics is about Aisha Huang and the galamsey menace . For the president to say he doesn't know whether this lady was deported or she sneaked out of the country tells you he is not aware of happenings in the country. When people have so much hope in you and you disappoint them this is the results you get. Those chanting away, away, away are same people who voted for you to become president. I voted for NPP in the last two elections. But from what is happening between Akuffo Addo and John Mahama, truth be told, John Mahama is a saint. It's like Ghanaians are just praying his term ends fast for him to go. He definitely is not up to the task. The P one errors of this president are just too much too many. This is certainly not the same NPP we saw under kufour. All the efforts kufour and his appointees made to make the NPP attractive to the youth have been dismantled. The 53% votes Akuffo Addo got in 2016 can be credited to policies. From 169 MP's out of 275 in 2016 to 137 in 2020 should have been a lesson for akuffo Addo to learn from. For a known NDC person to win the speaker of parliament position the first time in the fourth republic are all indications of coming events casting their shadows. Unfortunately a 2017 elephant with very big ears but it doesn't listen, at best it hears but won't listen. The results are the embarrassment shame, disrespect and public redicule ' my man ' is going through. December 2024 should come fast for him to go.
