Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, a Governance Lecturer at the Central University, has condemned the murder of a young Military soldier at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.
A military officer in his early twenties was allegedly beaten and stabbed to death by some unidentified assailants on his way home.
The deceased is said to have sought permission from the military camp to visit his family and, on his way, met his untimely death.
As a result, troops were deployed to the community who unleashed their anger on the residents in the community, beating them mercilessly.
Videos emerged showing the soldiers pulling the residents from the homes as they received heavy lashes.
Reacting to the incident, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah commiserated with the innocent people, who due to the death of the military officer, were subjected to severe beatings, but wondered why any person would attempt to assault and kill a soldier.
He kicked against mob justice stressing it is inappropriate and unlawful for any person to take the life of another and insisted that people shouldn't take the laws into their hands but rather report matters to the appropriate authorities and the Ghana Police Service.
"Stop the attacks," he exclaimed and expressed disgust over the assault of the young soldier resulting in his death.
"What at all could provoke them to stab this gentleman to death? Does this young guy not have a family? His mother is weeping. He has a family," Dr. Otchere-Ankrah decried.
He hoped the perpetrators will be found and dealt with.
"Are we in a jungle?", he fumed.

Rather unfortunate. As Ghanaians what ever the level of provocation we should learn to co-exist peacefully with the security agencies. Fact is these are the very personnel we will call upon to protect us when we feel unsafe. In as much as the reaction of the military is condemnable, we the civilian population should respect our personnel in uniform. These people who live their families behind at home to patrol our streets 24 /7 to ensure that we sleep in peace. Let's ask ourselves, irrespective of some of the " out of way " actions of the military and police, what would the state of affairs look like if they were not there . More so the military and police are own brothers and sisters. They are not foreigners, they are from our very homes. May the soul of our brother Sheriff rest in peace. To the parents especially the mother, as a Moslem give yours to Allah, nothing happens without His knowledge. Allah knows best. Every living soul shall taste death, as to where, when and how it will happen is what nobody knows. May Allah grant Shefiff Jannatul Firdaus.
