The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and his wife, 2nd Lady Samira Bawumia, spent a significant amount of time on Friday campaigning for the NPP Parliamentary candidate for Tuesday's by-election, Ernest Yaw Anim.
The arrival of Dr. Bawumia Friday afternoon set the constituency agog as frenzied constituents, both young and old, came out in their numbers to cheer and welcome the Vice President and listen to his message.
In towns he visited, including Sekyere and Woraso, Dr. Bawumia was mobbed by enthusiastic crowd, giving him a hard time to walk through on many occasions.
In each town, Dr. Bawumia and his entourage including the Parliamentary candidate first called on traditional authorities to seek their permission and blessings before going out to meet the people.
At Sekyere, where the NPP candidate hails from, Dr. Bawumia symbolically presented the candidate to the Chiefs, asking them to pray for him and grant him their blessings ahead of the elections.
Dr. Bawumia told the ecstatic crowd how intelligent the NPP Parliamentary candidate is and described him as the worthy successor to the late MP.
He urged the Kumawu constituents to come out in their numbers to vote to prove to the world that "Kumawu is indeed the home of the NPP".
Dr. Bawumia and his wife are also expected to join bigwigs of the NPP for the burial and funeral of the late MP today in Kumawu.
The NPP is scheduled to have its final rally on Sunday ahead of the elections on Tuesday.
The Vice President is expected to address a mega rally which will be attended by the party bigwigs.

In this particular contest the NDC is attacking and the NPP is defending. The reason is that the seat is an NPP seat, more so the NPP is in power now so the attacks are coming from the NDC. That said the Kumawu bye election will be a test case for the NPP going into 2024. I believe the voters register used for the 2020 elections is same register to be used for this particular bye election. Now watchers will be looking at whether the NPP will open the gap and win much more votes than in 2020 or whether the NDC will close the gap even if they lose or yet still whether similar figures recorded in 2020 will still hold. If the NPP is able to widen the gap compared to that of 2020 , that will be a big push going into 2024. However if the NDC closes the gap and still lose, then the NPP will have to tighten their belt going into 2024. This election will be a precursor going into 2024. We are waiting.
