The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament has accused the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, of being in bed with their colleagues on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) side to disrupt parliamentary business against the government.
According to the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, his side has done everything for the Speaker to restore calm in Parliament but he has refused to do so because he (Bagbin) seeks another term to lead the Legislative House.
He noted that it is a grand scheme by Speaker and the Minority to poke the Majority to wreak mayhem in the House and blame it on the ruling New Patriotic Party.
"First of all, the Speaker is an NDC member and he seeks to become Speaker again if the NDC gets the opportunity" to become the majority, "so, everything he is doing is a plan between him and the NDC", he said in an interview on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show.
He added that the current happening in Parliament is a trap for the NPP MPs saying "it is the same old playbook. They planned that when they came into the chamber, he will adjourn sine die. Whether whatever the reason or excuse, they have done it. They planned to declare some seats vacant, then quickly they will rush to our side and when we confront them, they will say there is chaos in Ghana and all. It is exactly what they are doing".
