Sonnie edged out other contenders like Israel Mosehla (South Africa), Diana Hamilton (UK), Emmy Kosgei (Kenya), Chapter 1 (Ghana), Muyiwa and Riversongz (UK), Florocka (Akinwunmi Nathan Akiremi- Nigeria), Ohemaa Mercy (Ghana), Solly Mahlangu (South Africa) and Rebecca (UK), in the Album of the year category.

Sonnie Badu has once again made Africa proud as he always promises to continue doing through his hard work. Although he was unable to attend the awards ceremony due to his world tour commitments in the USA, Sonnie expressed his gratitude through a pre-recorded video which was played during the ceremony for all to watch.

He also took to the social networking site twitter, to thank his supporters and assure them that only the best is yet to come and also mentioning that these two awards will make it his 15th and 16th in his awards display cabinet, adding to his long list of accolades and achievements all to the glory of God.

The music genius also thanked God for abundant favour and for blessing him with fans that have supported him over the years and still continue to support him. Sonnie said l count myself blessed to have been awarded with these awards and l give all the glory to God.

I also say a very big thank you to my supporters and all those who voted for me because without them none of this would have been possible. I love you all so much and it is my promise to continue making you and all of Africa proud
