Musician, Afriyie has called on colleagues who are in a better position to invest in Ghana’s ailing music industry to do so instead of erecting night clubs and selling alcoholic beverages.

The former member of defunct music group, Wutah in an interview with Sammy Flex on AM Pluzz expressed worry about how some musicians leave the shores of the country to record outside due to the lack of quality equipment.

He believes monies used by colleague musicians in setting up night clubs could have been invested in the industry so as to get better studio equipment and other things in order to improve the quality of records and raise the standards of the industry.

Afriyie who just released a single ‘Here to Stay’ is of the view that he has more to offer but proper structures ought to be put in place.

“I haven’t achieved 30% of what I intend achieving. We’ve laid a solid foundation back home, we need to get to where the Rocky Dawuni’s are and probably go beyond that. It’s sad that the whole country has had only one nomination at the Grammys and that is even in a reggae category which happens to be a genre for another country. So I think we need to work hard,” he said.

“Why will Knii Lante go all the way to Jamaica to record a song? It’s sad! We don’t have studio equipment to give that quality. That’s our problem. A musician gets money and opens a night club, sells alcohol,” he added.

Asked if he had an issue with that, Afriyie responded in the negative.

“Not necessarily but I think we need to set our priorities right if we want to move forward,” he said.

Among the artistes/musicians who own such facilities are Reggie Rockstone [Django Bar], Samini [Dancestardam], Nhyiraba Kojo [Nhyiraba Kojo City], Amakye Dede [Abrantie Spot] and Tic Tac [Tic Tac Reserved].
