Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim Safo who is in the centre of a controversy surrounding a trip some of the winners of the maiden edition of the Ghana Movie Awards took to France to attend the Cannes Film Festival, is back to Ghana after spending a week in France.
The “4Play” actress who arrived in Ghana on Saturday May 21 said any statement she has made on their trip was for herself and not on anybody’s behalf. Juliet said she never said anywhere that Ghanaian stars were stranded in France. “I never said we were stranded or spoke for any one apart from myself. I stayed a week there. I paid by own hotel, transportation and other bills and had fun with my family. I don't know about the rest”.
The Ghanaian contingent to France was led by Ghana Movie Awards founder, Fred Nuamah and also included John Dumelo, Yvonne Nelson, Yvonne Okoro, Majid Michel, Nadia Buari, Juliet Ibrahim, Abdul Sallam of Venus Films Productions, the manager of Golden Tulip Hotel, Nigerian actress Susan Peters of ‘Busting Out’ fame, actress Nicoletta Samoans who went on her own to cover the festival for her upcoming TV programme, and a host of others.
In an interview with Peacefmonline.com Juliet also denied ever making any statement about the French Embassy. “. I have never mentioned or said anything about French embassy in any of my conversations with Peace FM. I wasn't there when Fred neither organized the awards nor discussed with the embassy for it to be my problem. I don’t know where this French Embassy issue is coming from”.
She expressed her appreciation to Fred Nuamah for giving her an opportunity to witness the Cannes Film Festival. “No one should say I don't appreciate what Fred did because I do, after I won the award for “Best Actress” with my sisters Jackie, Yvonne and Roselyn, I am the only winner who has been making use of my freebies, I go to Golden Tulip gym, I go to SPA 216, and MKOGH to get my dress made. No other winner has done so. When I was chosen to go to Cannes I was also grateful until I got there and found out that all the promises were lies and that Fred had some favorites among us, favoritism was a big issue out there”.
Juliet, who owns a boutique and beauty parlour HOUSE of GLAMOUR BOUTIQUE and ENVOQUE BEAUTY PARLOUR, both located in Osu in Accra, also used the opportunity to shop in France to stock her boutique and had other fun trips with her family in France.
On his part, Founder of Ghana Movie Awards, Fred Nuamah who led the stars to France said he doesn’t have anything against Juliet because it is normal that issues like these will come up when people travel in a group.” I don’t have a problem at all Juliet is my sister and will always be I understand her.
I only want to thank the French Embassy for giving us the opportunity to travel to France at such a short notice and also want to express my appreciation to Lufthansa Airlines for paying 70% of the plane fare of each person on the trip”. Fred said the 2011 edition of the Ghana Movie Awards will be launched soon.
