Someone asked me today what I was doing for Valentine's Day and I realized that I would mostly likely be on a plane. So how do you find work life balance she asked because she couldn't imagine being away from her husband on that day.
Good question I said and always difficult to answer. It's not about Valentine's Day. The fact is that most working women struggle to find the time for their families and even less for themselves or none at all. This is unhealthy. What can you do? Start by recognizing that even though you must do your best at work, the company can survive without you. What I mean by that is you are entitled to take a day here and there. Spend it with your family or spend it with yourself. Treat your weekends differently. Sometimes you can decide to eat out. Ask your parents to watch the kids and have some quiet time with your spouse or by yourself. Even though it doesn't answer the fundamental question, anytime that you can snatch away for yourself and your family is good.
So for Valentine's Day even though I will be away, I plan to have a candlelit dinner over whatsapp video (thanks FB) with my husband. It's the next best thing. What are you doing today? Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
