Management of Kentcity Media Limited, owners Oman 107.1 FM in Accra, have once again protested vehemently against the jamming of its signal by unknown people operating at a clandestine location.

In a formal petition to the National Communications Authority and the National Media Commission, which was also copied to the Advertisers Association and the Ghana Institute of Marketing over what the station described as serious interference in its transmission, management said the station has so far experienced interference in its signals thrice in less than four months; the latest persisting for more than ten (10) days.

The Madina-based private radio station lamented that the situation has affected its fortunes as a commercial entity in terms of listenership and commercial flow in an industry which is very competitive.

Below is a copy of the petition filed by OMAN FM

11th February 2013
Mr. PaaRock Van Percy
Director General
National Communication Authority

H. E. Kabral Blay Amihere
Chairman
National Media Commission

Chief Crystal Djirackor
President
Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association

INTERFERENCES ON OMAN FM

We wish to once again bring to your attention, that for the third time in less than four months Oman Fm is experiencing serious interferences in our transmission.

The problem, which, has persisted for more than ten (10) days this time, has made it impossible for the station to be heard in parts of Spintex Road, East Legon, Airport Residential Area, Ridge, Cantonments, Labone, Asylum Down, Circle, Abeka Lapaz, Dansoman, Dzorwulu, Teshie, Kaneshie and many other places.

We have conducted several investigations and our conclusion is that, some special equipment has been installed at certain strategic locations that are being used to jam Oman FM transmission.

In order to be very sure that the interference was on our main frequency 107.1, we by passed our STL Link between Madina and Ahwerease where our transmitter is located, by installing a transmitter at Madina and transmitting it right from here. We got the same result of break in transmission in all the areas listed.

Sir, this has really affected our fortunes as a commercial Radio Station in terms of listenership and commercial flow, especially in an industry which is very competitive.

It appears to us that there is a consistent and sustained effort by some faceless individuals to collapse Oman Fm and some of its affiliate through this illegal act.

We humbly appeal to you to use your good offices; first in your capacity as the regulatory body of National Communication airwaves and second; in the promotion of true democracy; to investigate and put a stop to it once and for all.

Yours faithfully,

Stella Wilson - Agyapong
Chief Executive Officer
