The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) has mandated Mauritius to host the 2013 Africa Junior Athletics Championship following internal wrangling at the forefront of the South African Athletics Federation (SAAF) - original hosts.
The Championship, initially fixed for June 27-30, in South Africa, was suspended by the continental body due to the instability in the administration of SAAF, leading to its dissolution and subsequent formation of an Interim Management Committee (IMC).
Information gathered by GNA Sports reveals the continental body has rejected the dissolution of SAAF and the formation of an IMC, hence the decision shift hosting right for the meet slated for August 29- September 1.
Bawa Fuseini, General Secretary of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), told the GNA Sports, the new development is a great sigh of relief.
He said it will afford the GAA the opportunity to begin preparations for the national junior championship ahead of the event.
Ghana is expected to send about 20 athletes to the four-day event which serve as preparatory for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
