Newly-appointed Sunderland manager Martin O’Neil has confirmed considering options to return Asamoah Gyan to the Stadium of Light.
All the ‘mess’ at the club has been wiped clean by the new boss who is looking to get all hands on deck including the Ghana striker as the Black Cats mount a charge to avoid the drop.
Gyan, 26, became public enemy no.1 on Tyneside with a Ł6m loan move to UAE club Al Ain where he ended up tripling his wages to a reported Ł 120,000 a week.
And though immediate past manager Steve Bruce virtually slammed the door on Gyan’s return, O’Neil insists it is an issue he will be monitoring with keen interest. “It’s something I’ll address. I have to find out exactly where we stand on that,” the ex Aston Villa boss said said.
“His position will definitely be looked at.” Gyan on the other hand has extended support to the new boss by saying: “I wish our new manager Martin O’Neill all the best.”
