Appiah: Returning Stars Should Give Ghana A Lift

A crucial month of football awaits Ghana as the chance of reaching the final qualifying round for the 2014 FIFA World Cup draws closer.

As Kwesi Appiah prepares to announce his Black Stars squad this week for the last match of the second round qualifier against Zambia on September 6, events of the past week has given him further options.

The Ghana Football Association's acceptance of the return of three players - Kevin-Prince Boateng, Andre and Jordan Ayew - from temporal retirement and Sulley Muntari's apology for an incident whiles on national duty has presented Appiah with fresh options to consider for the game in Kumasi.

"It's always good to have lots of options," Appiah told www.ghanafa.org over the weekend.

"I am happy that they have made themselves available to play for the Black Stars and I am ready to work with every player. We are all chasing the same goal, winning against Zambia."

Though one might consider Ghana spoilt for choice, Appiah insists that the availability of the players should not distract attention from the job at hand.

"It's not important to scrutinize their - players - decisions to return to the team," he said.

"I think the focus should be on the game against Zambia and nothing else. Every Ghanaian who is available for the national team will always be considered.

"No disrespect to the other players. They have done a fantastic job up until now and we can and should only get better with the return of the players."

The Black Stars are in first place and one point better than Zambia on the Group D table ahead of their final meeting.

"Our focus is just Zambia and I call for positive thinking from everyone. The return of the players should rather lift us and present us with good options going forward.

"We are all professionals and know what the target is."

Winners of the second round stage will advance to the final round where ten sides will be paired off for the final stage during October and November with the winners of the five home-and-away ties qualifying for Brazil 2014.
