Government has promised through the Ministry of Youth and Sports to pay fully the surgery cost of Isaac Aryee a former national welter weight champion who was involved in an accident on 3rd may, 2017.

The promise was made known, when the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Pius Enam Hadzide paid a visit to Isaac Aryee who has been on admission at the korle bu teaching hospital through a fatal accident.

According to Mr. Hadzide government through the sports ministry is committed to the wellbeing and welfare of all sports men in the country and would not sit back without helping a former champion when he is in need.

“On the directives of the Sports Minister, Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, we have come to empathize with the former welter weight champion Aryee.

“This is to show support and also assure the hospital authorities, the family and everybody that as a ministry we are prepared to take care of the full hospital bills of his surgery”.

Mr. Hadzide urged the hospital not to hesitate to call on the ministry on anything with regard to the health and wellbeing of the former champion.

“This gentleman like all of us, is a proud citizen and property of the state and one of our sports icons…we are there for him even in his time of need…proceed with the necessary action and ensure that he is fully recovered and well taken care of.

The Deputy sports minister further used the occasion to thank the hospital officials for taking good care of Aryee and the countless number of Ghanaians who patronize the services of the hospital and also called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to help the appropriate division to investigate the case thoroughly.

Peter Zwennes, president for the Ghana Boxing Authority thanked the sports ministry for the quick responds, when they called on government for support.

“The Boxing Authority is grateful the ministry has come to our aid at this short notice…we are particularly grateful to the Sports Minister and the Acting Director General of the National Sports Authority Mr. Robert Safo Mensah.

Mr. Zwennes reiterated that the IGP take up the matter to the latter, saying “we are so much glad that the ministry has promised to take up the matter with the IGP…we can see it is a serious development but the we are more concerned with the health and plight of the boxer.

“We have been assured that the ministry will take the full cost of the surgery and Doctors have assured us that the surgery will be done next week” he said.
