Former Ghana midfielder Stephen Baidoo has applauded the decision of Kwesi Appiah to drop Andre Ayew for this months Africa Cup of Nations.
The Ghana trainer has frozen out the 23-year-old from his plans after he failed to report to the Black Stars training camp in Abu Dhabi.
Ayew picked up a hamstring injury while training with Marseille last week and was expected to join his teammates on Saturday.
But he failed to meet the deadline despite being given a two-day extension to arrive on Monday, promting coach Appiah to leave him out for this years continental showpiece.
Ghanaian fans have been sharply divided on the decision of the coach but the ex- Samsunspor and MIKE Ankaragucu midfielder believes the coach got it right.
I dont think anyone can question the commitment of the player to the national course. But its also important we understand that discipline is key to achieving success, Baidoo told Accra-based Happy FM
If all the players decided to go to camp at their own appointed time, I am not sure it will augur well for us.
It was important he (coach Appiah) made a bold statement that he was the man in charge and that no-player can be allowed to call the shots.
If Andre had been dropped because of form, then some of us would have been very angry but that is not the issue.
All players must conform to the rules irrespective who they think they are. I totally agree and support the decision of the coach.
The second son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele rejoined his Marseille teammates on Monday night at their training camp in Morocco just hours after he was dropped.
