Black stars captain Asamoah Gyan after scoring his first goal of the on-going Africa Cup of Nations has congratulated his team mates for their dazzling team work demonstrated during their last group B match.

Asamoah Gyan scored his first tournament goal and set up two others as the Black Stars run rout over group underdogs Niger.

In a post press conference after the match, Asamoah “Baby Jet” Gyan stated that he promised himself a brilliant performance as far as Ghana participate in the AFCON games and still twig to that.

“I told myself the right time will come and it came. Looking at the goal, I saw it to be a very good goal. I don’t want to talk much about but would like to congratulate the team, everybody did well, and we forced today and defended together,” he stated.

“I like to play for the team and like to be at the winning side and that is what happens,” he added.

Ghana’s soft spoken defender John Boye who fetched the stars their third goal of the game expressed his feeling after the match.

“I am just happy we won the match, we started very bad and now we are progressing. We are all happy about the win and pray to God that everything goes on like this so we will be at the top,” he said.

Most experienced cap player in the black star’s squad, John Painstil also congratulated the team for sitting on top of the group stage and expressed optimism that the team can lift the AFCON cup this year if such performance is demonstrated in the quarter final match.

“Congratulation to the guys, they did well for comporting themselves. We were tactically discipline… everyone played his best. We were expecting to score four goals but three is enough. We said to ourselves that we wanted to be on top of the table and this game was a must win game and we were able to that,” he said, adding, “we are here to compete”.

Ghana beat Niger in spectacular fashion to meet Cape Verde in the quarter finals of the ongoing Nations Cup tournament in South Africa.
