Rahim Ayew says his work ethic cannot be questioned despite gaining weight due to his inactivity.
The Ghana midfielder underwent a medical at Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko on Thursday but yet to agree financial terms with the club.
He is close to signing for the club who can snap him up during the second transfer window midway through the first round.
Rahim wants to return to the Ghana Premier League after a successful one-year spell with now relegated Eleven Wise in the 2008/2009 season.
The 25-year-old is available on the transfer market for free after leaving Belgian Pro League side SK Lierse.
“It is normal that a player will put on weight when he is out of action and in my case for four months,” Rahim told MTNFootball.com
“I remember a sports journalist described me as a ‘fat cow’ when I signed for Wise but I ended winning the Discovery of the Year.
“The fans should wait and see me in action before commenting on my weight. I am professionals.
