Ghana assistant coach Maxwell Konadu has rubbished claims that some players will be selected to the Black Stars 2014 World Cup squad because of their past glories.
The ex-striker insists that players with the best form and other crucial factors like the options available to Ghana in a particular position will be considered when the squad is unveiled next month.
There has been an intense media campaign for some players who have played in the Black Stars in the past to be included in the squad claiming they are experienced.
Players like Derek Boateng, Anthony Annan and John Mensah are some of the players being proposed by a section of the media to be selected for the World Cup in Brazil because of their past contributions to the Black Stars.
Boateng has not seen much action at English side Fulham but Annan is reviving his career with German side Schalke after recovering from injury.
Mensah joined a Slovakian side in his bid to force his way into the squad but has been blighted by injuries.
Konadu says they will select players who are in top form and that they will not be relying on past glories in their selection for the World Cup in June.
“We have told the players that earning a place in the final list would not be based on past glory,” Konadu is reported to have told the local media.
“It will be based on current form and several other footballing factors which must be exhibited by all.”
Ghana will face Germany, Portugal and the United States of America in Group G of the competition.
