Former Ghana Football Association Communications Director, Randy Abbey is confident that Ghana will win the hosting rights of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations despite stern competition from Egypt and five other countries.
The Executive Committee member of the GFA and a member of Ghana’s 2017 African Cup of Nations bid committee, Randy Abbey remains positive that the country will win the hosting rights for Africa’s showpiece soccer tournament despite the stiff competition.
Ghana is among seven countries to have put in a bid to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations after the original winners withdrew drew to security concerns.
“We have a lot of respect for the countries that have also put in a bid. l think it's going to be very competitive but we believe that we are putting together a package that should convince the CAF Executives for us to get the nod,” he told Asempa Sports.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the final bids following the submission deadline on September 30.
Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, Sudan, Zimbabwe and 2012 co-hosts Gabon all submitted proposals to the continent's biggest football event.
CAF will announce the eventual host in 2015. Ghana co-hosted with Nigeria in 2000 before going alone in 2008.
Libya were scheduled to host the tournament but pulled out due to political instability following the violent overthrow of Muammar Al Gaddafi.
