Swansea City brought Manchester Uniteds unbeaten start to the Premier League season to an end as they beat them 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium.

Juan Mata had put the Red Devils ahead just after half-time but two goals in five minutes from Andre Ayew and the in-form Bafetimbi Gomis, going into the last half-hour, earned the Jacks a brilliant three points on home soil.

Swansea are fast becoming Man Uniteds bogey team, having also beaten them 2-1 twice last season, and it will certainly add to Garry Monks burgeoning reputation, with opposite number Louis van Gaal revealing hed voted him manager of the year last season.

Now, ahead of transfer deadline day, Van Gaal will want to add some desperately needed pace to a team who looked pedestrian at best in Wales.

Ashley Williams did well to snuff out a Wayne Rooney chance with 18 minutes gone, as the striker looked to get on the scoresheet again, following his midweek hat-trick against Club Brugge.

While Juan Mata also went close, snatching at a shot as he attempted to beat Fabianski at his near post following good work from Memphis Depay and Ander Herrera.

Swansea City offered plenty of threat though as a sensational outside of the boot pass from Ayew put Gomis through, only for the Frenchman to crash a shot into the stands after getting in behind Daley Blind.

Moments later Gylfi Sigurdsson sneaked behind the defence and saw his tame shot trickle wide and, after Sergio Romero managed to get back and save a long shot from Jonjo Shelvey, Gomis hit the post with a cute strike, leaving the Red Devils rattled.

Rooneys Champions League treble clearly boosted his confidence but two more poorly selected shots, one a tame chip, wasting some brilliant passes from his team-mates, before Bastian Schweinsteiger did well to block Ayews route to goal.

Manchester United looked nave against their opponents and soon Morgan Schneiderlin and Depay were booked, with the Swans frustrating their visitors who couldnt find their rhythm.

If Van Gaals side had been pedestrian in the first half they shot out of the blocks in the second period and, after a wasted Shelvey free-kick, Luke Shaw was able to fly down the left flank and flash a cross into the box which Mata gleefully tucked away.

But the hosts were level on the hour-mark as Sigurdsson whipped in a cross from the right and a free Andre Ayew was able to beat Romero with a well-placed header, while captain Williams should get plenty of credit for starting the move with a exceptinal interception.

And five minutes later the turnaround was complete as a sumptuous Ayew pass behind Chris Smalling allowed the on-form Gomis to slide the ball past Romero and unleash his panther celebration.

Van Gaal looked to change the flow of the game by throwing Ashley Young, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini into the fray but their patient play meant it was hard to get any joy against a resolute Swansea backline.

Man United poured forward but their long hopeful balls to Fellaini were unsuccessful while, at the death, Rooney took far too long to shoot, after some brilliant skill, with the marvellous Williams muscling him off the ball brilliantly when a goal looked likely.
