Police officials in Manchester have carried out a controlled explosion of the suspicious package which led to the postponement of United’s league game against Bournemouth.
The package, found just before the game at Old Trafford, led to the evacuation of the Sir Alex Ferguson and Stretford End stands. The game was initially supposed to be delayed, but was later called off as a security measure.
Officials came in with sniffing dogs and located the package, and the bomb squad proceeded to carry out a controlled explosion of the device.
Whilst the game was called off, the result of Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Swansea means United can no longer qualify for the Champions league next season. The date for the replay of the now moot game has yet to be set.
