FA Welcomes Sports Ministry Idea To Investigate Match Fixing Claims

The Ghana Football Association in its quest to bring sanity into the Ghana Premier League is their propriety and the idea that the Youth and Sports Ministry would want to help in the investigation of the alleged match scandal in the just ended Ghana Premier League is much appreciated and welcome.

This according to the communication director of the Ghana Football Association Sannie Daara.

Reports surfaced that the sports Ministry will see up a committee to investigate the much talked about match fixing scandal in the just ended Ghana Premier League. Allegations claims are that Techiman City and Berekum Chelsea are both guilty of bribery and match fixing after investigations into their fixture game played in Techiman as similar allegation were leveled against Wa All Stars and New Edubiase. The recent alleged match fixing game was between AshantiGold and Kotoko in their 29-week fixture which ended 5-3 in favour of AshantiGold in Obuasi. Couple with much claims in the Ghanaian league, something ought to be be done to bring sanity into the Ghanaian league.

“There are rules governing the football and if the Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye thinks he can help or assistant in the FA’s investigations, his assistance will be considered with all the seriousness its deserves.”

“The football association does not support bribery and corruption, match fixing in our football and so if the Nii Lantey can help, he has not done any wrong by saying the Ministry will support in the investigations of the football association to bring out the match fixing claims.”

“Also if the security service can also assist in our investigations we will seek their opinions in our search to bring sanity into the Ghanaian professional premier league, if people in government are punish for bribery and corruption, football too has its rules to punish football administrators, players and officials who are found culpable.” Sannie stated.

According to the football communication director, within the circles of football, there are structures that looks into match fixing and the FA will not do anything to bring the game into disrepute, the GFA will not leave anything to chance when there are allege match fixing scandal but rather will investigate to the fullest.

“The FA don’t ’only relay on hear saying that if somebody just alleges that, two clubs have played a fixed match, we will seek for real evidence and prove because the one who alleges must prove.” He insisted.

“Our ethic committee are there to investigate any match fixing scandal.”

Recent reports in the media suggest that Kotoko’s Samuel Kyere, alleged that Kotoko AshantiGold match was a fixed match as they settled for 5-3 for AshanatiGold to survive relegation. Edubiase’s Prince Antwi also alleged that his club played a fixed match with Berekum Chelsea and both players have been invited by the ethic committee of the Ghana Football Association to assist them in their investigations.
