Coach Charles Kwabena Akonnor of Kumasi Asante Kotoko has said, he and the entire team planned on qualifying for the group stages of the ongoing Confedration of Africa Football (CAF) Confederations Cup, by securing a good result in first leg against Cameroonian side Coton Sport in Cameroon.
This he said was to make the second leg comfortable for the porcupine warriors as they seek a place in the money zone of the competition.
According to Coach Akonnor, though it wasn't an easy task having such plans, his team was able to pull through, after beating the Cameroonian champions by 3:2 at their own back yard in the first leg at their back yard.
Akonnor, made this known at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, after two goals from captain Amos Frimpong and Maxwell Baakoh and a consolation from Coton Sport midfielder Innocent Assanah Nah, finished the game 2:1 for Ghana's sole representative in the CAF Confederations Cup.
"We went into the first leg match against Coton Sport with the idea to qualify before the second leg.
"What we have shown in the two legs is fantastic and I praise my players for it now we have to prepare well ahead for the group stages," he added.
Kotoko, who has booked a group stage berth after 15 years of trying recorded a 5:3 goal aggregate in both legs.
