Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuije has backed Black Stars player Mubarak Wakaso's claim that partisan politics has affected the country's quest for the Nations Cup trophy.
Ghana has not won the Nations Cup since 1982 despite coming close three times in the two decades, in 1992, 2010 and 2015.
Mubarak Wakaso revealed that politics has crept into the team and can be partly blamed for the team's failure at the Africa Cup of Nations in recent years.
"I will speak the truth today. Do you know our problem about the game?. Maybe we know but we don’t want to say it. But I think politics ruins the Blacks Stars at times. When NDC is in power, NPP doesn’t want us to win and vice versa," the midfielder told Angel TV.
Nii Lante Vanderpuije, who was Sports Minister under the previous government affirmed Wakaso's statement, disclosing how some players get influenced by political parties.
""I agree with Wakasu 100%. Partisan politics has ruined the Black Stars. I experienced it as a sports minister. Some people in NPP influenced some players against me during my time as minister and I got to know," the Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio constituency told Angel FM.
