football at the moment" in the West African country, GHANAsoccernet.com understands.

All football has been suspended since March due to the coronavirus outbreak which has brought the game to a complete standstill.

GHANAsoccernet.com understands senior figures within many of the established top-flight clubs want the season totally cancelled.

While local fans are divided over the long-term future of the current campaign, high ranking club officials are pushing for the annulment of the season.

Current league leaders Aduana Stars as well as Berekum Chelsea, Medeama, Elmina Sharks, Ashantigold, Inter Allies, Liberty Professionals, Legon Cities, Ebusua Dwarfs, King Faisal, Karela United, West African Football Academy (WAFA), Asante Kotoko want the current campaign cancelled, it has been claimed.

Great Olympics, Bechem United and Dreams FC are keen for a continuation of the season while the position of Techiman Eleven Wonders and Hearts of Oak remain unclear though the club's supporters chief has kicked against the cancellation of the season.

There are fears it won't be feasible to play the remaining 19 Premier League matches and several FA Cup games with clubs requiring  a minimum of six weeks to prepare before resumption.

Those pushing for the cancellation say the campaign should end whatever the consequences, with a new one beginning in September/October to synchronize with the much-touted European calendar.

It does not appear government will dole out cash to the Ghana Football Association, meaning any attempt to restart football without money will be heavily resisted by the Premier League clubs amid the pandemic.

Football remain suspended in Ghana until at least July 31 despite eased restrictions by government which has allowed for non-contact sports to resume.

The rising number of coronavirus positive cases has shifted Premier League clubs' opinion towards cancelling the season.

Ghana’s case load passed the 8,000 mark on last day of May 2020 as president Akufo-Addo addressed the nation lifting conditionally a raft of restrictions.

The death toll jumped to 44 with its biggest daily rise yet as officials confirmed 294 new cases on Saturday with a total confirmed cases standing at 9, 462 cases and 3,547 recoveries.
