Top Security Officer Lives In His Office

It has been almost ten (10) months since Divisional Officer Class II, Seth Amissah, Commander in-charge of the Suhum Municipality Office of the Ghana National Fire Service assumed office as the new commander of the area but he has never slept in a bed since assuming his post. The Commander, who is supposed to lead his men, even to the point of death, in fighting fire to save Ghanaians, has been force to sleep and live rough in his office because the state cannot afford to give a small room to sleep in so he sleeps, showers and even visits the toilets in his office. According to the Commander Division Officer II Seth Amissah, ever since he took the mantle as the new commander in July 18, 2011, he has not being handed over a decent or an official accommodation to settle in together with his family. In an interview with the Daily Searchlight newspaper in his office, the one time commander in-charge of Kwahu North popularly known as the Afram Plains said he received his transfer letter with all happiness after several years at Kwahu North which separated him from his family. Though according to the Commander, he has personally complained several times to the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Hon. Samuel Kwabi, his efforts have been to no avail. This has compelled him to use his official office as his residence as his bedroom which houses his few belongings including the student mattress he sleeps on and a bucket he uses for taking his bath. Throwing light on the challenges facing him as a Municipal Commander, D. O. II Amissah said among other things that there are 50 fire service personnel working under his outfit and none of them are having any official accommodation which has being a source of worry to him. The building which according to information belongs to the Ghana COCOBOD also house 16 other departments including Ghana Immigration Service, NCCE, National Ambulance Service, Labour office etc. but to the surprise of this reporter there is no toilet facility at the premises for the whole staff population of about 300. Interestingly, workers of the various departments have to make do with a public place of convenience particularly when one wants to visit the toilets or urinate. The workers lamented that they have on many occasions complained to both the Municipal Assembly and the Member of Parliament of the area Hon. Frederick Opare Ansah for assistance but to no avail. Even the premises is nothing to write home about as the inner and outer compound is bushy and the only car park for staffs and visitors is now a death trap to anyone who parks his or her car there.
