Ama K to clash with top Nollywood actresses

WINNER of the Best Actress in a Leading Role at last years African Movie Academy Awards (AMAAs), Ama K Abebrese, has reacted to her second nomination at the 2012 edition of the awards as welcoming, saying that a win will be phenomenal. In 2011, the actress was adjudged Africas finest actress with her role in the movie Sinking Sands and with the 2012 edition of the awards beckoning, her role in Ties that Bind has given her another chance to be nominated again. She will be slugging it out with her Nigerian counterparts including Nse Ikpe Etim (Mr & Mrs), Rita Dominic (Shattered), Uche Jombo (Damage), Millicent Makheido (48), her fellow Ghanaian nominee Yvonne Okoro(Single Six) and Kudzai Sevenzo-Nyarai (Playing Warriors). Africas most prestigious awards for filmmakers announced this years nominees at a glamorous party held in Banjul, Gambia last weekend. Speaking after her nomination, an elated Ama K Abebrese said that winning the award- two years- on the trot would be a feat never achieved before at the AMAAs. That will be something that has not been done before by an actor or actress at the AMAAs, so winning will be phenomenal. However if its meant to be, it will be, she said. On competing with other actresses, Ama K said, I never compare myself to anyone. I think we all equally stand the same great chance of getting the award. The competition will be fun. Whoever wins will be deserving. Meanwhile, Nigeria got 52 nominations for the awards ceremony, with Lancelot Imasuens desuwa leading the pack. The movie joined South Africas Otelo Burning and How to Steal 2 Million as the most nominated in the continents most prestigious awards for filmmakers. For the first time, the awards will be held in Lagos rather than Bayelsa State in Nigeria.
