Striking Pharmacists: We've Lost Faith In FWSC

The leadership of the Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association have stated that they have lost trust in the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) as well as its head, Mr. Mr George Smith-Graham, over its recent decision to call off a scheduled meeting to discuss issues relating to their strike. The group declared a nationwide strike last week over anomalies in their migration unto the new pay policy. According to the executive secretary of the association, Ernest Owusu Aboagye, they will only meet with the sector minister to address their concerns. In his interview with Citi News he said strangely, we heard the Chief Executive on some radio stations saying that he will not deal with us as long as we are on strike; we, as a leadership want to establish here that we are not interested in meeting with FWSC because we have lost faith in them. And we are not interested in meeting with them [FWSC]. Mr. Aboagye said the pharmacists have held various meetings with the National Labour Commission including a compulsory arbitration which yielded no results. According to the National Labour Commission, it is a matter too complex to resolve. We are actually surprised that they have called us back to the table but perhaps out of respect, we may appear before the commission, he added. Mr. Aboagye maintained they will not return to post until Government resolves all outstanding issues. Meanwhile the Health Ministry has given indications that it will be meeting the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission over the concerns of the pharmacists.
