Man Stole From Womans Underwear

A daring young man, Kwame Mensah, 21, who dipped his hands into the underwear of a woman and stole her GH80 at Tweredua near Asikuma in the Central Region has been jailed by the Breman Asikuma Magistrate Court. Mensah claimed he initially hid the money in his backside before burying it in the bush while being pursued. After changing his plea from not guilty on March 16, to guilty on April 3, the court presided over by Mrs. Cynthia Addae convicted Mensah on his own plea. He was sentenced to six months imprisonment on the charge of threat o death, and four months for stealing. Police Inspector Isaac Dzefa told the court that, Mensah on March 12 last month trailed the victim, Esi Kum, a petty trader, to an isolated spot near a cocoa farm before attacking her. He said both Mensah and Esi Kum boarded the same taxi cab and alighted at Nankese lorry station, but Esi Kum decided to continue the journey on foot to her village called Tweredua. Mensah, who realized Esi Kum had money on her, trailed her to an isolated spot before attacking her. The prosecutor said Mensah attacked Esi Kum from behind, kicked her onto the ground, jumped on her, and held her neck onto the ground. Mensah later raised the skirt of Esi Kum, and open the zip to her underwear before forcibly removing the money and bolted into a nearby bush. The prosecutor said her incessant cry and shout for help attracted men from a nearby village, who organized themselves and pursued Mensah in the bush. Mensah was finally arrested at Essandze village, but without the money, because unknown to them, he had hidden the money in the bush. The prosecutor said Mensah who was remanded into prison custody from March 16, changed his mind in court on April 3, and pleaded guilty to the charges.
