Ghana Not Smuggling Illegal Weapons - GNCSA

The Ghana National Commission on Small Arms has debunked reports that Ghana smuggles illegally manufactured weapons to neighbouring countries. This came to light when the commission undertook a survey to ascertain the veracity or otherwise of some reports by some ECOWAS member states that Ghana tops the list of West African countries who smuggle illegally manufactured arms to other countries. Speaking to Citi News, the programmes officer at the Ghana National Commission on Small Arms, Johnson Twum, said their findings proved otherwise. He said: Our findings suggest that nothing of the sort is happening in the country as far as our security is concerned. There are no weapons being smuggled into other countries. Mr. Twum, however, moaned challenges posed by the unsafe nature of the countrys borders. As steps to correct this problem, Mr. Twum said national security was currently setting up CCTV cameras at borders across the country to monitor activities.
