Police Commander Removed

THE NKAWIE District Police Commander who was allegedly assaulted by the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Atwima Nwabiagya district in the Ashanti Region in his office has been removed from his position, DAILY GUIDE has learnt. ASP Charles Adu is said to have been transferred to the Mampoteng District Police Command in the Ashanti Region under circumstances which seem weird to many residents. The district police boss, DAILY GUIDE gathered, assumed his new post and was officially taken round the district by the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Kwabre East district, Idris Adams, last Thursday. ASP Adu hit the headlines about three weeks ago when it was reported that the DCE for Atwima Nwabiagya Nana Asare Bediako aka Obama had slapped him in his office. The alleged incident occurred when the DCE, according to information, stormed the office of the police commander to demand the recording of disturbances carried out by some supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) during an activity by the Nasara Club of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the area. Obama, it was alleged, sent a group of NDC supporters to disrupt the meeting of the NPP Nasara Club in the area but the police prevented them from doing so because the club had secured an official permit from the police in for that activity. DAILY GUIDE learnt that the DCE, along with his constituency executives, stormed the venue to stop the programme but the deployed police personnel prevented them from doing so. After failing to stop the well-attended function, the DCE was said to have organized a group of NDC supporters to besiege the venue of the programme and stop it but they were again prevented from doing so by the police personnel. Sensing danger that the police officers recording could be used to trace the troublemakers, the NDC supporters informed the DCE that their misdeeds had been recorded by one of the police officers on duty. In view of this, the DCE, the next day, went straight to the office of the district police boss to demand the said recording but the police capo refused to give it to him, thereby prompting the DCE to slap the police boss in his office. Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that the decision to remove the district police chief was influenced by the expose of the alleged slapping incident in the media. The Ashanti regional minister, Dr Kwaku Agyeman Mensah, according to sources, was mad that the police commander brought the issue to the public domain to cause public disaffection for the DCE. Though the police commander did not speak to the issue in the public arena himself, one of his junior brothers granted interviews to the media on the incident and threatened to deal ruthlessly with the DCE if anything untoward happened to his brother. Dr Agyeman, the paper gathered, believed that had the police commander not disclose the details of the incident to his brother, the issue would not have come to the public domain. Therefore, as a form of punishment, the regional minister is alleged to have used his influence to get the district commander transferred from the district to a new area. Though the then regional police commander would not confirm the slapping of the district commander in his office by the DCE, DCOP Patrick Timbillah admitted the fracas between the two gentlemen. He said the DCE did not slap the police commander but there was a fracas between the two in the office of the district police commander.
