Man Who Set Children Ablaze Remanded

The man who set five children ablaze for disturbing his sleep has been remanded. He is said to re-appear in court on May 15. Kobina Amakye, a 40-year-old fisherman is alleged to have severely burnt five children who were playing behind his house while sleeping. A 10-year-old boy died and four others sustained severe injuries, when Amakye, a fisherman, threw an improvised explosive device at them for disturbing his siesta. The body of the deceased, Kweku Mensah, has been deposited at the Central Regional Hospital while another child, aged six, is in a very critical condition. One of the children escaped unhurt. Amakye, a father of four, said he threw the explosive at them just to scare them away and that he took the action without the intention to cause harm. The four injured children are currently receiving treatment at the Central Regional hospital in Cape-coast.
