KATH Denies Surgeons Strike Report

The management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has strongly denied reports that surgeons of the Hospital are on strike. A statement signed by the acting Public Relations of the hospital stated that the services of all Surgeons are readily available to all patients at KATH. It added that such unresearched statements tend to demoralize our hard working surgeons who are committed to save lives. Also, such statements have the potential to incite the public against the Hospital. The hospital also denied that it had sacked a senior consultant leading to a protest at the hospital by surgeons. On Tuesday reports indicated that the surgeons at the hospital were protesting the refusal of the hospital authorities to reinstate a key specialist trainer. Dr. Agyekum Twumasi, a resident surgeon at the hospital, told XYZ News that the specialist trainers appointment was terminated without germane reasons but the surgeons had met with officials of the Health Directorate to iron out their concerns. However, in the statement, hospital authorities stated that Management of the Hospital has not sacked any Consultant Trainer at the Hospital as is being peddled falsely in the media Also, management once again wants to correct the wrong impression being peddled around that it has done nothing about the grievances raised by Junior Doctors at their recent strike action. According to the management, soon after the strike a seven member committee was set up to oversee the resolution of issues raised by the Junior Doctors in relation to equipment. Two representatives of the Junior Doctors including the President are members of the committee. In addition to the above committees, the Board has also invited the Auditor Generals Department to investigate alleged mismanagement and financial misappropriation and fraudulent procurement practices. Management wants to state that the committees are yet to submit their reports and therefore finds the false allegation being given out that Management has not done anything about the issues raised by the Junior Doctors ridiculous. We wish to allay the fears of the general public about the negative impression being dished out to the public about KATH's image. Management is on top of issues and is doing everything within its powers to improve conditions at the Hospital it concluded.
