Zoomlion Accused Of Shady GHC84m LESDEP Funds

The Executive Director at the Danquah Institute Gabby Asare Otchere Darko has called on leading private waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana Limited to come out and clear the air on their role in the acquisition of money in the Local Enterprise and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP). According to him, government in this years budget says it has allocated 60 million cedis to LESDEP which is a joint venture between government and Zoomlion. Mr. Otchere Darko told Citi News the scheme is a huge scandal in the brewing because those who sign up for the programme could have used less of the amount allocated to them in training if they were given that money as capital. We know that government has given 84million Ghana cedis to LESDEP already. If you have about 10,000 people being helped with 84million Ghana cedis it means every person will get over GHC 8,000 while GHC 1,000 will be enough to start a business. It means there is something shady going on, he said. Meanwhile efforts to get a response from Zoomlion have proved futile.
