Robbers Attack Market Women; Two Killed

An armed robbery gang Monday morning attacked a passenger car conveying some market women to the Koforidua market killing the driver of the vehicle on the spot. One of the market women, who was injured in the process died later at a nearby hospital. The incident has apparently put fear in residents in Koforidua. Agona Police Commander, DSP Arkah who confirmed the armed attack to XYZ News said the police have begun investigations into the matter and will make efforts to track and arrest the robbers. He said "they were market women who were traveling from Winneba to Koforidua in three different Benz Buses and they were all attacked. They [robbers] blocked the road with pieces of wood and fired at them to stop". In a related development an armed robbery gang operating in Aboboa in the Ashanti region has been busted by the police. Eleven robbers were arrested and one was gunned down in an operation over the weekend. The Police say the robbers have been terrorizing residents in parts of the Kumasi metropolis for some time. Ashanti regional Police commander DCOP Augustine Gyenin addressing the media Monday morning said the Police Service has decided to put down measure in order to prevent the robbers from operating.
