Those who think that the Ashanti Region is still the hotbed of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) must start revising their notes, as some loyal followers quit each passing day.
Woes of the party continue to deepen in the political wilderness, as this time about 50 members and sympathizers at Oyoko in the Sekyere East District have pitched camp at the ruling New Democratic Congress (NDC).The group, led by one Thomas Brobbey, claims that their action is informed by many reasons, prominent among which is the philanthropic gesture by an NDC member.
Mr. Brobbey, who claims to be a member of TESCON, says Mr. T.K. Braimah, a native of Oyoko and an NDC leading member in the district, has helped the community in diverse ways.
Leader of the defectors says that Mr. Braimah has single handedly provided the community with street-lights and boreholes which has enlivened their desire to seek relief under the umbrella.
To them, his philanthropic gesture, coupled with the proper execution of the �Better Ghana Agenda� by the Mills administration, has also motivated them to join the NDC. Mr. Brobbey, flatly denied that the group, has been dashed some money to take that decision, adding the action is based on their own conviction.
The group, which prefers to be known as �Eagle Club,� lashed out at the NPP, saying they contributed little to the development of the area, thence the need to give the ruling government a second term.
�The NPP turned deaf ears to the development problems in the area and an attempt to link up with them on numerous occasions yielded no response,� they said.
According to them, development in the area is enough for President Mills to secure a second term and not what they described as the stingy rule by the erstwhile NPP administration.
Meanwhile, the party executive in the Sekyere East district, has confirmed the decision by the group and thus accepted them into the fold of the NDC.
