The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has joined calls for the relocation of the Kotoka International Airport following last Saturday�s plane crash near the El-Wak Stadium in Accra. Ten people in a 207 Benz bus were crushed to death as an Allied Air cargo plane rammed into them when it overshot the runaway at KIA as it attempted to land. Nana Akufo-Addo, who was outside Accra at the time of the incident, visited the crash scene on Monday and suggested the growing population of Accra, makes it prudent to relocate the international airport. He said: �With 25 million people, I agree that if we have three or four international airports in this country it would not be out of place.� �The more we decentralise these things in Ghana the better for the development of the country and for the efficiency of what we are doing,� the main opposition leader said. �If we have one place that everything comes we are going to have challenges. I�m strongly for it. It�s a progressive idea to turn the Kumasi and Tamale airports into international ones.� Nana Addo explained that he visited the crash site to find out from the appropriate authorities, what really happened. Interacting with the media after being briefed by the security forces on site, Nana Akufo-Addo expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the bereaved and prayed for God�s continuous protection and preservation of their souls. Nana Addo said, �I was shocked and terrified when I heard the tragic news and like all other Ghanaians, wished that it did not happen. This is a big tragedy for all of us.� He added, �It is unfortunate that in our country some of these terrible incidents occur before we begin to think about how to tighten the system to make it much safer.�
