PHOTO: Two Hiighway Robbers Arrested

Two suspected highway robbers have been arrested by the Tamale Police after they attempted robbing residents of Sakpali near Kukobila in the Savelugu Nanton District of the Northern Region. Innusah Ibrahim, 28, and Iddrisu Yussif, 20, both hail from Nango in the Karaga District of the Northern Region but on the dawn of last Wednesday, they hatched the plan to rob the residents. They were reported to have dressed in military uniform, armed with a gun and stormed the village at about 2am to rob the residents of their belongings. While embarking on their operation, some residents were hinted about it and they massed up to effect their arrest but the first suspect, Inusah Ibrahim, managed to escape. Unfortunately for the second suspect, he was unable to flee the scene and was arrested by the villagers who subjected him to severe beatings before handing him over to the chief of the community. The runaway suspect, in his attempt to flee for safety via a Kia truck, was arrested by a driver who got wind of the robbery attempt and handed him over to the chief. Upon their arrest, the residents retrieved a sheep believed to belong to one Amadu Abubakri, a Hoajen Motorbike with registration number NR-11-399 and a 12 SB Bore shotgun manufactured in Russia with two live cartridges. The assemblyman for the area lodged a complaint with the Savelugu police after both were detained in the chief�s palace. The suspects were subsequently transferred to Tamale where they will be prosecuted on various charges. According to the Tamale Police District Crime Officer, ASP Gideon Foli, the two would be provisionally charged for robbery, hinting that they might be remanded in prison custody to allow his outfit to investigate the issue further.
