BA Referees Boss Accused Of Taking Bribes From Club Chairman

Brong Ahafo Regional Referee Chairman S.Y Berima has been accused of taking a bribe of 1000 Ghana cedis from the club chairman of Babeso Royals. The bribe was aimed at helping Royals qualify for the Division Two Middle League which never materialized. As a result, Royals chairman, Samuel Gyeki is demanding a refund of his money for work not done, a situation that which is causing a lot of problems at the Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association. Babeso Royals were unable to qualify for the middle league and I was informed of a call from Babeso Royals bankroller that he is demanding a refund of monies paid to refrees, Brong Ahafo Regional Referees Appointment Committee chairman, Thomas Oppong told Angel FM. The initial charge was that the money was given to me but we later found out that the money had been indeed paid to the Referees Chairman (Berima). He (Berima) confirmed he had taken the money and that 500 cedis was for him personally and the other half was to be shared amongst referees but the referees insists they have received nothing. We (Brong Ahafo RFA) intend taking the matter up to ensure we arrive at the logical conclusion of this matter because we want to rid the game off corruption. Reports of corruption and bribery in the lower tiers of Ghana football has been very rampant but action to tackle this cancer by higher authorities have not been forthcoming. As a result, teams that gain promotion from the lower tiers are perceived not credible and this suspicion is confirmed by their abysmal performances at a higher divisions where they almost immediately suffer relegation.
