Govt Will Ensure Peace Returns To Hohoe - Vice President

The Vice President, John Dramani Mahama has assured Chiefs and people of Hohoe that government will do everything possible to ensure that peace returns to the community following last Mondays deadly clash between the indigenes and the Muslim community. The situation has led to the displacement of over 6,000 residents mostly Muslims. Speaking to Chiefs and residents in the community, John Mahama appealed to both feuding factions to exercise restraint and give peace a chance. An unfortunate incident happened and that incident should not be used to mar the relationship that has existed and the peace that we need to continue to develop Mr. Mahama said. He added that Governments interest is to restore peace, our intention is not to recount the incident that has happened already. Government is the father for all, some unfortunate things have happened but we are going to do everything possible to normalize the situation. The Vice President also reacted to concerns raised by some individuals over the inability of President Mills to travel to Hohoe and other conflict hit areas to assess the situation. When this incident occurred, there were several people who were saying why the president hasnt been there but the state works in a procedural way. Every region has a minister; every district has a municipal chief executive, there is a regional security council, there is a national security council, when an incident happens it is not the President who arrives first. There are several officials who arrive to ensure that calm is restored and tempers have gone down before the President arrives to assess the situation John Mahama added. One of the Chiefs, Togbui Agyemang who spoke on behalf of the traditional leaders in Hohoe indicated that the current conflict is not between Muslims and Ewes but members of the Zongo community and the Gbi state.
