Otumfuos Chief Joins Mills Campaign

A SUB-CHIEF of the Asantehene, Nana Dankwah Dwamena Dwubisiaw, chief of Drobonso in the newly created Sekyere Afram Plains North District in the Ashanti Region, has openly endorsed the candidature of President Mills in the coming national polls. The traditional leader, who defied the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutus order debarring chiefs in Asanteman from engaging in partisan politics, said the NDC government had done well so far so the electorate should renew its mandate in December to continue with its good works. He stated that the Better Ghana Agenda mantra of the ruling government had indeed reflected in his life and that of his subjects, insisting Ghanaians should be bold and tell the truth once and for all. If you have not seen anything, as for me and my people at Drobonso we have witnessed the massive transformation that the NDC government had brought into our lives since assuming political office about three years ago, the Drobonso chief noted. Nana Dwubisiaw made the controversial statement last Friday during a programme attended by people from all walks of life, held at Drobonso to inaugurate the Sekyere Afram Plains District Assembly. The Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Dufuor, Anima Wilson, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Yamoah Ponko, Municipal Chief Executive of Ejisu and some traditional leaders were also present at the event. The Drobonso chief, who was charged up, passionately appealed to the electorate to renew the mandate of the NDC administration in the coming elections, pledging his support and that of his peoples to the sitting government. According to Nana Dwubisiaw, the two former presidents, Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor, were in power for two consecutive terms, arguing that President Mills also deserved a second term after giving a good account of himself so far. We should vote for President Mills in the coming polls so that he will continue fulfilling his promises under the Better Ghana Agenda, the Drobonso chief, who was surrounded by his elders, stated. The chief prophesied that Ghanaians would witness significant changes in their lives if the NDC was retained in power. To demonstrate that he was indeed pleased with the performance of President Mills, Nana Dwubisiaw presented a fat cow to the NDC leader, stressing, He has done well and he deserves a cow. He also presented a sheep to Dr. Dufuor, saying, You are our son and your performance in government is splendid so you also deserve the sheep. Touching on the new district, he said he would not relax now that the area had been elevated to a district, announcing that he would soon use his high office and foreign connections to attract investors to the area. Earlier on, Nana Peprah Koduah IV, Kontihene and acting President of Kumawu Traditional Council, lauded the government for bringing a new district to the area, noting that it would help speed up development at the place. He was however quick to express his disappointment about governments failure to consult with the traditional leaders in the area when it was creating the district, admonishing the government not to repeat that in future for peace to prevail. Nana Koduah IV, without mincing words, stated emphatically that the chiefs in the area were taking care of the lands on behalf of the Kumawu Traditional Council, therefore government and potential investors should deal directly with him whenever they were in need of lands for developmental projects. He bemoaned the poor road system, lack of schools and hospitals as well as non-existence of other essential commodities at the new district, urging the government to direct its attention to developing the area to befit its status as a district.
