Ghana Hosts First Indian Trade Show

The first-ever Indian Trade Show in Ghana takes off on Monday at the Trade Fair Centre, La-Accra. Dubbed The India Show, the three-day industry exhibition and conference event is organised by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) with support from the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of External Affairs. At a press briefing in Accra yesterday, the High Commissioner to India, Mr Rajinoder Bhagat, said more than 100 Indian delegates from the agriculture and allied services, construction, consumer durables, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, information technology, textiles and energy sectors were expected to participate in the event. The India Show promises to be the perfect opportunity and platform for African businessmen and institutions who seek partnerships for trade, joint ventures, technology transfer and investments from their Indian counterparts, he said. Mr Rajinoder Bhagat said India was putting its best foot forward to showcase all that it had to offer to enable West African countries, especially, to benefit from Indian business and manufacturing excellence. We in India believe in capacity building and have thus trained several professionals in Ghana and other West African states in information technology, administration, accounting and agriculture, he added. Touching on some of the benefits the event would offer to the businesses in Ghana, a representative from the ECOWAS Private Sector, Mr Wilson Attah Krofah, said it would give captains of industry the opportunity to look at avenues for businesses between India, Ghana and other neighbouring West African countries. Taking cognisance of the high-level participation of ministers, procurement agencies, investment boards and the private-sector players from across West Africa, there will be excellent networking opportunities with business counterparts, policymakers, financial service providers and other key players, he said. Mr Krofah called on Ghanaian entrepreneurs to get on board to harness these new opportunities for the trade and investment that this historic experience will offer us. The theme for the fair is, Showcasing India in the 21st Century."
