MUSIGA Congratulates Sarkodie

The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour, who returned home last week after a two-week visit to the United Kingdom, has congratulated Sarkodie for winning the BET International Act award at the BET Awards ceremony held in California. The Tema-based artiste was a joint winner with Nigerias Whizkid at the prestigious awards event which celebrates the best in black music worldwide. According to the President of MUSIGA, Sarkodies feat was an indication of the massive potential Ghanaian music had. Obour also commended Bola Rays Empire Entertainment for the successful hosting of the second edition of the Ghana meets Nigeria musical extravaganza in Accra. He described the event as a positive step in the march towards African unity, noting that such events would foster the attainment of the dream of continental unity. Obour returned home last week after a two-week visit to the UK, where he held series of meetings with the General Secretary of the British Musicians Union and President of the International Federation of Musicians (FIM). The meeting discussed possible collaborations between the two unions. According to the MUSIGA president, the meeting was very positive, adding that that a lot of prospects awaited Ghanaian musicians, especially live performers and composers in the areas of training and skills development and participation in international festivals. Other areas include support with collective rights management. The meeting took place at the offices of the MU at 62 Clapham Road in London. It is expected that as a follow up to the meeting, the twinning scheme proposed by MUSIGA would be signed during the FIM Congress in Argentina later in the year.
