Chris Ackumey Sues Kufuor & Mpiani Over CP Judgement Debt

A member of the legal team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr David Annan has revealed that former President Kufuor and his Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani, as well as Dr. O.B Amoah have been sued for their roles in the loss of monies paid to Construction Pioneers (CP) and other judgement debts which have rocked the nation. According to the NDC legal team member, the writ filed at the High Court by Chris Ackumey - also a member of the NDC legal team - the former President is yet to be served with the Writ of Summons. Speaking on Radio Golds current affairs programme Alhaji & Alhaji, Mr Annan stated that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament which has been holding public hearings on the issue of judgment debt payment was threading on dangerous grounds. He said but for the writ filed by his colleague, Chris Ackumey over the 94 million Euro payment to CP, he would have dragged the PAC before court for engaging in acts he described as totally improper, illegal, and ultra vires. He explained the PAC need not go into the merits of the judgment debts because the judgment debts came about because one party in a legally binding agreement breached terms of the agreement. Mr Annan stated that the settlement paid to CP was a consent judgment from a competent court which had already looked into the case, hence if the PAC is seeking answers about the financial aspects of the payment, it should address its concerns to the Ministry of Finance which effected the payment. According to Mr Annan, the conduct of the NPP members on the PAC betrayed the minority members' motives and grand political agenda to absolve the NPP of blame as far as their actions and inaction were concerned. The NDC member commended the Attorney General, Dr. Benjamin Kunbuor for fighting the insinuations some of the PAC members including their Chairman, Mr Albert Kan Dapaah had been casting on political opponents who appear before the committee.
