Nursing Mother Grabbed For Ganja

A 33-year-old nursing mother, Mensuwaah Akosua Mary, is in the custody of the police together with 13 other persons for allegedly possessing and smoking leaves believed to be Indian Hemp popularly known as �Wee� or �Ganja.� The 14 suspects, including two females, were arrested by a special police team from the Asokwa Police in Kumasi at their bushy base at Nweneso Number 2 in the Ashanti region on July 10, this year. The other suspects are Perpetual Owusu, Afia Mansa, Kwaku Marfo aka Barima, Kwame Nssiah, Amakye Richard, Kwaku Bonnah and Akwesi Poku. The rest include Yaw Amankwah, Okyere Boateng, Akwasi Poku, Yaw Amankwah, Kwaku Nsiah aka �Dada� and Kofi Mensah. The police found a polythene bag containing liquor which is made of a mixture of �Akpeteshie� and herbs suspected to be Indian hemp popularly known as �Laka on them. A brown powder suspected to contain cocaine, kitchen knife and pair of scissors were also found on them during the time of the arrest. Six suspects managed to escape arrest and the police are on their heels and very soon they would be nabbed, a police source noted. He disclosed that the arrested persons would be screened and those found culpable would be arraigned before court.The source said the police were informed that some persons believed to be armed robbers had set up a camp at Nweneso village near Atwima Hwediem. He said the Asokwa police on July 10 dispatched a group of 14 policemen to the area to arrest the suspects.
