Bishop Herman College (BIHECO) is on course to restoring its lost glory and academic excellence, Reverend Father Walter Mawusi Agbetoh, Headmaster of the college said on Saturday. Rev. Fr. Agbetoh was speaking at the 60th Anniversary celebration of the college at Kpandu on the theme: �Bishop Herman College at 60 - A great Catholic Institution.� He said the college was gradually getting back to its enviable first position when it was �shaking Ghana and West Africa with its academic results and contributing the bulk of athletic contingents for zonal and regional sports.� He said after those glorious years in the 1970s and 1980s, the college recorded a �period of decline and decay� especially within the past two decades. Rev. Fr. Agbetoh, however, noted that in the last five years, the college re-strategized and embarked on an agenda to restore lost glory to the school, which was now yielding results. He said, for instance, that the college recorded 100 per cent in the 2011 West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations with many students scoring �quality grades.� Rev. Fr. Agbetoh said: "That result was a clear testimony that our drive for restoration of academic excellence is yieliding results.� He said the college also emerged the overall best in the first-ever �Rise Robotics Contest� at the Kofi Annan ICT Centre out of 15 participating schools from the southern zone of the country and won the 55 Independence Day Inter-Schools Debate in the Kpandu Municipality. He commended the school's Board of Governors and the Bishop Herman Old Boys Union for their contributions towards the achievements. Professor Kofi Awoonor, Chairman of Council of State, commended the college for not recording any student disturbances since its establishment and urged the students to uphold the virtues of respect, humility and love. Mr Mahama Ayariga, Deputy Minister of Education, said 75 million dollars had been secured to enhance quality teaching and learning and reiterated government�s commitment to supporting the education sector. He challenged students of the school to endeavour to be the best in the country and in West Africa and not only in the municipality and the region. Master Emmanuel Mensah Calvin, Senior Prefect of the school, appealed to government to provide the school with a big bus in view of its huge student population. Prizes were given to deserving students and staff.
