Let Mills Death Unite Us Atta Akyea

As the nation mourns the death of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea has asked politicians to unite and agree on serious national issues. He said the death of Prof. Mills had united Ghanaians, adding, I hope the same synergy and the common purpose will be there when it comes to national issues. Mr. Atta Kyea made this known at the State House where the body of the late president was laid in state. He was part of hundreds of Ghanaians and high-ranking dignitaries who thronged the forecourt of the Banquet Hall yesterday to file past the body of the late Prof. Mills. Mr. Atta Kyea said, I think in death we are converged but when it comes to the serious matters of life, the divergence is there. We are so partisan to the extent that when we address issues of national concerns we dont have parliamentarians converging, he added. Mr. Atta Kyea expressed the hope that all the political parties in the country will converge in future, saying we will save the soul of Ghana and that is when the nation will begin to take shape and improve. He said, If one mans death can unite us, why cant we translate the same historical experience in our developmental efforts, so that we can say when it comes to the economy of Ghana nobody can joke with inflation whether is single digits or otherwise. Mr. Atta Kyea said the death of the late President highlights mortality. No matter how we think about ourselves, no matter how we feel we are so exalted, this faith can befall anybody. And therefore when we are entrusted with power, we should give up our very best, be humble and know that nothing is permanent, he noted. I think that when the mourning period is over, we should just put our resources together and see how the business of governance continues, Mr. Atta Kyea said.
