President John Dramani Mahama has urged personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to brace themselves up to play a significant role in maintaining peace and order in the country before, during and after the December 7, 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections.
He said the conflicts and disasters plaguing other countries should be a wake-up call for the armed forces to be well-prepared to avert such conflicts in the country.
President Mahama made the call when he addressed the Course 33 graduation ceremony of security officers at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC).
It was his first official assignment outside the seat of government, the Castle, after the burial of President John Evans Atta Mills.
Sixty-one military, police and fire service officers from Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Burkina Faso, Cote d�Ivoire, Liberia, Mali, Uganda, Namibia and Rwanda graduated with Postgraduate Diploma in Defence and Peacekeeping Operations, Master of Arts (MA) Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy, and MA in Governance and Leadership.
