Lawyer Condemns Coroners Inquest Into Mills Death

A pressure group, Lawyers in Search of Democracy (LINSOD), has condemned persons and groups demanding an inquest into the death of late President John Evans Atta Mills. Some civil society organizations, individuals and media practitioners have made calls for a coroners inquest into the death of President Mills describing it as necessary because Ghanaians deserve to know. But a member of LINSOD, lawyer George Loh told Citi News, the reasons given for the inquest into the Presidents death are unjustifiable as his death under law does not deserve a coroners inquest. All the arguments being made by doctors, lawyers and all sorts of groups claiming that there is a mandatory 24-hour coroners inquest is neither here nor there. It is not in our laws and if they go for the coroners act, they will not find it there, he explained. According to him, the motive for a coroners inquest is when there is a doubt as to the circumstances under which somebody died and such circumstances should either be violence or its totally unknown.
