Five Chinese Re-Arrested At Manso-Nsiana

About five Chinese nationals who returned to Manso-Nsiana to retrieve their equipment being used for illegal mining have been re-arrested following agitations by residents. About 19 Chinese illegal miners were granted bail after violent clashes between them and the inhabitants of the town regarding their illegal operations. The spokesperson for the Ashanti Regional Security Council, Francis Dodovi told Citi News, a joint Immigration and Police personnel re-arrested them to avoid any possible clashes between the two groups. He said: We had to re-arrest them due to the agitations by the residents, so as at now, only one Chinese is left at the site under police surveillance just to make sure that their properties are protected. They are, however, in the custody of the Ashanti Regional Immigration. Meanwhile, Mr. Dodovi also mentioned that the REGSEC will confiscate the equipment if they are found guilty of indulging in illegal mining activities. It is not as if that they are being taken away and leaving their equipment behind. They as individuals have been arrested and their equipment will also be confiscated if they are guilty.
